HigherDOSE review: what's FDA-cleared, what's not, and which product to buy

6 devices: 2 masks, 1 bed or mat, 1 hair device, 1 sauna blanket and 1 red light sauna, $349 to $7,999. HigherDOSE sells infrared and red light gear for home use, and its products sit in three different places with the FDA: the Red Light Hat, the face mask and the red light mat are cleared through 510(k)s; the sauna blanket is covered only by a brand-wide listing; the cabin and PEMF mats have no FDA record I could find. What's consistent: a one-year warranty on the hat, mask, mat and blanket, and 120 days to return them. The cabin is the exception, at 30 days, unopened only.

If you want one HigherDOSE product, the long return window is the reason to buy from this brand, and the hat and mask are the ones with clearances for a stated use. Prices range from $349 for the mask to $7,999 for the two-person cabin.

FDA: cleared, listed, or nothing

  • Cleared: the Red Light Hat under K242363 (Nov 20, 2024), the face mask under K241933 (Sep 27, 2024), and the Full Body Red Light Mat under K241947. The last one comes with a caveat: the 510(k) was filed for "EnergyLounger (TY-01)", a recliner-style device, and HigherDOSE's mat is tied to it only through an FDA listing with the name "HigherDOSE Red Light Mat". HigherDOSE's mat page says nothing about the FDA.
  • Listed, no 510(k): the sauna blanket. Higher Dose LLC holds a brand-wide listing under product code ILY ("Lamp, Infrared, Therapeutic Heating", exempt from 510(k)); it isn't tied to the blanket by name.
  • No record found: the infrared sauna cabin and the PEMF mats.

Clearance means the FDA found a device substantially equivalent to one already on the market for a stated use; none of the three files included clinical testing. A listing means the company registered the product with the FDA, nothing more.

Who makes it

All three 510(k)s were filed by Shenzhen Kaiyan Medical Equipment Co., Ltd., with HigherDOSE as distributor. The same maker filed for masks sold by other brands; that story is in the face mask review.

The Red Light Hat

A wireless baseball cap with 120 LEDs at 650 nm, cleared under K242363 for androgenetic alopecia (hereditary hair loss) in men with Norwood-Hamilton IIa–V and women with Ludwig-Savin I-1 to I-4, II-1, II-2 or frontal patterns, Fitzpatrick skin types I–IV, per the 510(k) summary.

  • Schedule: HigherDOSE says 10 minutes daily. The 510(k) describes 10 minutes "every other day, for 16 weeks", at 5 mW/cm² and a dose of 3 J/cm². The brand's schedule is twice the cleared one.
  • EMF: HigherDOSE says "zero EMF"; it gives no measurement.
  • Warranty and returns: 1 year; 120 days from delivery, money-back, prepaid label.
  • Price: $449, checked Oct 26, 2026 on the brand's store.

The two caps have the same wavelength range and session length; HigherDOSE gives 120 days to return it against 30 at Bon Charge. All hair devices are compared on the hair growth page, and what the studies show for red light is on the benefits page.

What owners say. On amazon.com the Red Light Hat averages 4/5 from 75 ratings (checked Oct 7, 2026). Owners praise: Battery life is the most liked feature: 6 of the 7 Amazon reviews that mention it are positive. Owners note USB charging, and one reports 5 or 6 ten-minute sessions per charge. (amazon.com). Owners complain about: Durability is the main complaint: 4 of the 6 Amazon reviews that mention it are negative, including a power button that failed after a week and a cap that stopped holding a charge within a year. (amazon.com). One owner wrote: "Looks good and wears like a normal hat. Battery is fantastic as it can power many sessions without the need to recharge." (amazon.com, Nov 15, 2025).

Sauna blanket, PEMF mats and face mask

Infrared Sauna Blanket, $699: far infrared, up to 175°F, one heating zone, with the longest return window among the blankets we track and a one-year warranty. Details and comparison with Bon Charge, Hooga and Sun Home are in the sauna blanket review; all blankets are on the sauna blankets page.

Infrared PEMF Mat and Go Mat: far infrared plus pulsed electromagnetic fields. The full mat now sells under a new address as the Infrared PEMF Mat, $1,295 (checked Oct 26, 2026); the Go Mat is $699. Both come with the same 120-day money-back guarantee as the rest of the line; the other specs on file came from search snippets, so I don't repeat them here.

Red Light Face Mask, $349: red and near-infrared (630 and 830 nm), cleared for wrinkles under K241933. Full review: HigherDOSE face mask.

Microcurrent Body Sculptor: the brand's body-only microcurrent device; it isn't an infrared or red light product, so it's outside this review.

The infrared sauna cabin

The HigherDOSE Full Spectrum Infrared Sauna costs $7,999; a three-person version also exists ($8,999). Both sizes were marked sold out in the brand's store when I checked on Oct 26, 2026. Its product page loads the specs by script, and I could only see them in search snippets, so I'm not listing the size, power or warranty as confirmed; ask HigherDOSE for the spec sheet and the electrical requirements before you order. HigherDOSE doesn't confirm built-in red light on its page; only a third-party review mentions it as an option. Returns are where it differs most from the rest of the range: 30 days, unopened only; 30% restocking fee; buyer pays return freight. Cabins with red light are compared on the red light saunas page.

Returns: 120 days, with exceptions

HigherDOSE's return policy gives 120 days money-back on its "wellness technology": the hat, the mask, the red light mat and the blanket, with a prepaid label for the hat. Two exceptions:

  • The blanket's fine print. The store's legal refund policy reads "14 days, unopened blankets only", which doesn't match the 120-day promise. Ask support to confirm in writing before you rely on it.
  • The cabin. 30 days, unopened only, a 30% restocking fee, and you pay the return freight.

Does infrared light detox your body?

Not in any way that's been shown to help health. A 2012 systematic review found toxic elements in sweat, but no evidence that sweating them out improves health. The FDA has acted on detox claims for saunas before: in 2014 Therasage recalled a home sauna whose marketing claimed detoxification, among other things (FDA recall record). Most of the weight you lose in a sweaty session is water (Gutiérrez 2003).

Does it work?

For the red light products, the clearances above say what each device is cleared for, and the studies behind red light for skin and hair are on the benefits page. For infrared heat, see the infrared sauna benefits page. For PEMF, I have no independent sources; HigherDOSE's claims are its own. Nothing here is medical advice (medical disclaimer).

Questions people ask

What is HigherDOSE?

A US brand of home infrared and red light products: sauna blankets, a cabin, red light hats, masks and mats, and PEMF mats.

Is HigherDOSE a reputable company?

Here's what can be checked: 3 products have an FDA 510(k) clearance, the blanket is covered by a brand listing, the hat, mask, mat and blanket have 120 days to return, and the warranty is one year. HigherDOSE doesn't make the cleared devices itself; Shenzhen Kaiyan Medical Equipment Co., Ltd. filed the 510(k)s.

Does HigherDOSE really work?

The hat is cleared for hereditary hair loss and the mask for wrinkles, based on equivalence to earlier devices, not new trials. For the blanket and PEMF mats, there's no clinical evidence specific to them.

Is HigherDOSE a good red light therapy mask?

It's a cleared red and near-infrared mask at $349 with 120 days to return it. The full answer is in the face mask review.

How many times a week should you use a sauna blanket?

HigherDOSE suggests starting with 30–40 minutes; its timer runs to an hour. Cleveland Clinic's guidance for infrared saunas, written for cabins, is no more than 30 minutes, 3–4 times a week (Cleveland Clinic). More in the blanket review.
