Which sauna kit to buy

We track 8 sauna kits. SaunaLife Cube CL3G 2-Person Outdoor Sauna Kit has the highest score, 9/10. 7 use an electric heater and 1 can take an electric heater or a wood stove. Prices run $3,990 to $7,990, checked Oct 8, 2026. 3 models are price on request.

Sauna kits come in three kinds: pre-cut packages that line a room you frame yourself, modular panel rooms, and small outdoor buildings you assemble. Before price, check two things: whether the heater is in the box (only 2 of the 8 kits here include one) and whether you can return it (room kits from Thermory and Baltic Leisure and The Sauna Place can't be returned at all).

My pick for an outdoor kit is the SaunaLife Cube CL3G 2-Person Outdoor Sauna Kit ($3,990). For an indoor room, a finished cabin can cost less than a kit: the Redwood Outdoors Alcove Indoor Sauna - 2 Person is $4,299 with a 6 kW Harvia included.

I compared 8 kits from $3,990 to $7,990 where a price is published; 3 are sold by phone or through dealers only.

Outdoor kit
SaunaLife Cube CL3G 2-Person Outdoor Sauna KitThe cheapest kit here, a two-seat thermowood cube with a glass front, shingle roof and LED lighting. The heater isn't included, freight is a flat $950, and the seller says you need a foundation, permits and a certified electrician. You can return it within 30 days if assembly hasn't started. SaunaLife's warranty text wasn't on the seller's page.
Indoor, without framing a room
Redwood Outdoors Alcove Indoor Sauna - 2 PersonNot a kit but a finished two-seat cabin, and it costs less than the pre-cut room packages here: the 6 kW Harvia KIP is included, and it runs on 240 V like any stove sauna. The catch is 1 year of warranty, against 5 years on Baltic Leisure's room kit.

Among the kits we don't link to a store, Baltic Leisure's 4 × 4 Silver Series ($6,277) is the most complete box: a 4.5 kW Harvia KIP with stones, a glass door, benches, light, vapor barrier and vents, with 5 years for residential indoor use. It's made to order, can't be returned, and the price is F.O.B. Oxford, Pennsylvania. Thermory's Small Square No. 45 ($5,478) is pre-cut thermally modified spruce, 98 cu ft inside, with "25 years of rot resistance" but no full warranty text I could find. Auroom's Cala Wood ($7,990) is ready wall sections with no heater and $1,000 flat freight.

Finnleo's custom-cut kit includes a heater and control but is sold through dealers with no published price. Cedar Brook quotes by phone, Finlandia through dealers, and The Sauna Place doesn't detail what's in its Cedro Maui package.

Pre-cut, modular or outdoor kit?

Three kinds of sauna kit
KindWhat arrivesWhat you doExamples here
Pre-cutBoards cut to your room size, benches, door, often the heaterFrame, insulate and wire a room first, then line itBaltic Leisure, The Sauna Place, Finlandia Sauna, Finnleo
Modular (prefab panels)Finished wall and ceiling panels that bolt togetherAssemble panels, have the heater wiredAuroom, Cedar Brook Sauna
Outdoor kitA small building: walls, roof, glass front, benchesPrepare a base, assemble, have the heater wiredSaunaLife, Thermory

Pre-cut is the most work: Baltic Leisure's package goes into a room you have already framed and wired. Modular and outdoor kits skip the framing but not the base, the permit or the electrician. Building a sauna from scratch instead is covered in our DIY sauna guide.

What's included, and what isn't

Only Baltic Leisure and Finnleo put a heater in the kit. SaunaLife and Auroom sell theirs without one, Thermory and Finlandia don't say, and Cedar Brook lists a heater among the components without saying whether it's in the base price. The cheapest Harvia KIP heater at Topture, the 4.5 kW KIP45B, was $1,155 when I checked; prices and fit are on our sauna heaters page.

Beyond the heater, compare the door, benches, vapor barrier, lighting and the small things: bucket, ladle, thermometer. Baltic Leisure lists all of them. Where a seller doesn't list contents, ask for a packing list before you pay.

Shipping and returns

Baltic Leisure 4 × 4 Silver Series Pre-cut Sauna PackageYes, F.O.B. Oxford, PAPre-built and pre-cut rooms are made to order and are not returnable; other items: 30 days via RGA, 20% restocking fee
The Sauna Place Custom Indoor Cedro Sauna Maui 5 × 6 ft, cut to your precise dimensionsYes, free standard shipping from $200 to the 48 statesThe Sauna Place: 30 days from receipt via RMA, restocking fee from 15%; room kits (modular and pre-cut) are not returnable
Thermory Small Square Sauna No. 45Yes, from the dealer (The Sauna Place)The Sauna Place: 30 days from receipt via RMA, restocking fee from 15%; room kits (modular and pre-cut) are not returnable (dealer terms)

Return terms are where kits differ most from finished cabins. Room kits from Baltic Leisure and The Sauna Place are made to order and can't come back. The Sauna Heater accepts returns of the SaunaLife and Auroom kits within 30 days only if assembly hasn't started. Finished cabins from Almost Heaven and from Topture allow 30 days, but only unopened or uninstalled and minus restocking and freight both ways, so neither route is cheap to undo.

Is a kit cheaper than a finished sauna?

Not always. The SaunaLife Cube CL3G 2-Person Outdoor Sauna Kit costs $3,990; add $950 freight and the cheapest fitting Harvia heater at $1,155, and you're at $6,095 before the electrician and the base. A complete two-person Almost Heaven Salem barrel lists at $4,036.50 with a 6 kW Harvia heater, and Redwood's Alcove indoor cabin at $4,299 with one. What a kit buys you is a size or shape that fits your space. Whether building from scratch saves more depends on your labor and materials; see our DIY guide and what a home sauna costs.

Electric or wood-burning?

Most kits here are built around an electric heater on 240 V, which means a licensed electrician; whether you need a permit depends on your city, so check your local building department. Cedar Brook lists a wood-burning heater as an option. Auroom's seller says wood-burning heaters are acceptable, but its list of compatible heaters names electric ones only, so ask. Wood stoves are compared on our wood-burning stoves page; wood species on our sauna wood page. For a barrel you assemble yourself, see barrel saunas, and for finished indoor cabins, dry saunas.

Questions people ask

Is it cheaper to build your own sauna?

Sometimes, but a kit isn't automatically cheaper than a finished sauna: the cheapest outdoor kit here plus freight and a heater comes to $6,095, more than a complete two-person barrel at $4,036.50. The savings, if any, come from your own labor and materials.

Do sauna kits include the heater?

Only 2 of the 8 here do: Baltic Leisure and Finnleo. 2 are sold without one, and the rest don't say clearly.

Can you return a sauna kit?

Pre-cut and modular room kits are often made to order and not returnable, as at Baltic Leisure and The Sauna Place. Read the return terms before you order.

How often should you use a sauna?

In the best-known Finnish study, the men who went four to seven times a week had the lowest rates of fatal heart disease, an association rather than proof (Laukkanen, 2015).

How we picked

Every kit gets 1.5 to 2 points on each of 5 criteria: Heat figures, published specs, price per person, warranty and returns and owner reviews. The score out of 10 is the sum, from 7.5 to 10. Owner reviews not summarized yet, so every model gets 1.75 of 2 points there for now. Prices were checked on Oct 8, 2026. Read the full method.
