Harvia sauna heater review: KIP, Cilindro, Spirit, Virta and the wood stoves
7 products: 4 sauna heaters and 3 wood-burning stoves, $969 to $2,502. In the US, Harvia is best known for heaters: 30 of the 49 traditional and outdoor saunas in our database list a Harvia heater. If you're buying one on its own, size it to the room first; the KIP60B ($1,195) is the only model here with controls built in. The Cilindro, Spirit and Virta need a separate Xenio or Fenix controller, so the real price is heater plus controller plus stones. The electric models are listed to UL 875; the wood stoves carry only European CE marks.

Verdict
you want a heater your electrician and inspector are likely to know: all four electric models are listed to UL 875, the US safety standard for sauna heaters, per the dealer.
warranty matters most (HUUM gives 3 years for home use, Harvia 2 plus a third if you register), or if you want a wood stove with a US listing, which none of Harvia's stoves here has.
The electric lineup
| Model | Power | Room size | Wiring | Controls | Stones | Max temp | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Harvia KIP60B 6 kW | 6 kW | 169–300 cu ft | 240 V, 25 A, 10 AWG (one circuit) | Built in | 44 lb, not included | Not stated | $1,195 |
| Harvia Cilindro Half PC80E 8 kW | 8 kW | 141–431 cu ft | 240 V, 33.4 A, 8 AWG (one circuit) | Separate controller, extra cost | 200 lb, not included | 194°F (controller limit) | $1,270 |
| Harvia Spirit SP60E 6 kW | 6 kW | 177–294 cu ft | 240 V, 25 A, 10 AWG (one circuit) | Separate controller, extra cost | 110 lb, not included | 194°F (controller limit) | $1,715 |
| Harvia Virta HL90E 9 kW | 9 kW | 177–494 cu ft | 240 V, 8 AWG (one circuit) | Separate controller, extra cost | 110 lb, not included | 194°F (controller limit) | $2,143 |
The KIP has a thermostat, a 1-hour timer and delayed start on the heater itself and no app. The other three are heater-only: you add a Harvia Xenio or Fenix controller, and the Wi-Fi versions of those work with the MyHarvia app. I don't have a controller price on file, so budget for it separately, plus 200 lb of stones for the Cilindro or about 110 lb for the Spirit.
The wiring figures are from the dealer pages. They're for planning a conversation with a licensed electrician, not a wiring guide; the 6 kW models here already need a 240 V circuit at 25 A. All heaters in the category are on the sauna heaters page.
Wood-burning stoves
| Model | Power | Room size | Flue | Logs up to | Stones | Loaded from | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Harvia M3 (WKM3) 16.5 kW | 16.5 kW | 212–459 cu ft | 4.5 in, class T600 | 13.8 in | 66 lb | Inside the sauna | $969 |
| Harvia Legend 150 (WK150LD) 16 kW | 16 kW | 212–459 cu ft | 4.5 in, class T600 | 13.8 in | 264 lb | Inside the sauna | $2,089 |
| Harvia Legend 240 SL (WKLE20SLM) 21 kW | 21 kW | 353–848 cu ft | 4.5 in, class T600 | 15.4 in | 440 lb | Next room | $2,502 |
All three take a 4.5 in flue and class T600 chimney; for a standard 6 in North American chimney, Harvia sells an adapter (WZ115155) for the M3. The Legend 240 SL is the one for big rooms (353–848 cu ft): its firebox goes through the wall, so you load wood from the next room. Water heaters are optional extras on all three. Wood stoves from other makers are compared on the wood-burning stoves page.
UL, ETL and your inspector
- Harvia KIP60B 6 kW: c-UL-us listed, conforms to UL 875 (Topture, part JH60BU1UL); harvia.com lists UL, CE, EAC for JC60B2401; West Coast Saunas says ETL.
- Harvia Cilindro Half PC80E 8 kW: ETL listed, conforms to UL 875 (Topture, part HPCS8U1HUL); harvia.com lists ETL for the built-in-controls version HPCS8U1HBUL.
- Harvia Spirit SP60E 6 kW: ETL listed, conforms to UL 875 (Topture, part HSPE60U1MUL); harvia.com lists CE, EAC, UL 875.
- Harvia Virta HL90E 9 kW: ETL (harvia.com, part HL9U1UL); Topture: ETL listed, conforms to UL 875.
- Harvia M3 (WKM3) 16.5 kW: CE (EN 15821) and EAC only; no UL listing found on harvia.com or Topture.
- Harvia Legend 150 (WK150LD) 16 kW: CE (EN 15821); no UL listing on the page.
- Harvia Legend 240 SL (WKLE20SLM) 21 kW: CE (EN 15821); no UL listing.
UL and ETL are different testing labs; per the dealer, all four electric heaters are listed to the same standard, UL 875. For the KIP, the part numbers on harvia.com and at Topture differ, so check the label on the heater you receive. For a wood stove without a US listing, ask your local building department before you buy, and have it installed by a licensed professional.
Warranty: it depends where you buy
Bought from Topture, Harvia heaters come with 2 years from the manufacturer; a third year if registered on harvia.com within 30 days of purchase; stones not covered (Topture policies). The wood stoves list 2 years. Inside a complete sauna, the terms come from the sauna maker: Almost Heaven, for example, covers its Harvia heaters for 1 year on the elements and 5 years on other parts (Almost Heaven review). I'd confirm the current terms on harvia.com before registering.
Returns go through the dealer, not Harvia: at Topture, request within 30 days of delivery, written RA only; restocking fee of at least 25%; buyer pays return shipping and the original freight; 2–5% card processing fee not refunded. That's an expensive way to find out a heater is the wrong size, so measure the room first.
How long does a Harvia heater last?
The only figure I can verify is the warranty: 2 years, or 3 with registration. Harvia doesn't publish an expected lifespan that I found, and I won't quote dealer estimates without a source. Note that stones aren't covered, and that the Virta's elements slide out for service.
Using it: water, app and controls
Can you pour water on the stones? Yes: all four electric models here are rated for dry or wet use, per the dealer. App: MyHarvia works only with the Xenio or Fenix Wi-Fi controllers, so not with the KIP. Temperature: the controllers top out at 194°F; the KIP's maximum isn't stated. For troubleshooting a heater that won't heat or reset, use Harvia's manual for your exact model; I haven't collected the manuals, so I won't guess at steps.
Harvia vs HUUM
| Harvia KIP60B | Harvia Spirit SP60E | HUUM DROP 6 | HUUM CLIFF 6 | |

HUUM's warranty is a year longer. Harvia's electric heaters carry a UL 875 listing; HUUM's are listed by SGS to a different standard, UL 60335-1. The full comparison is in the HUUM review.
