How much does a home sauna cost? Prices by type, from blankets to backyard cabins

By Kirill Gissa · Published
Short answer

A home sauna costs $73 to $43,990 in our database, depending on type. The cheapest are portable steam tents, from $73; infrared sauna blankets start at $399. Indoor infrared cabins run $2,199 to $10,500 and indoor traditional saunas $4,172 to $17,195. Outdoor barrels start at $4,037.

The sticker isn't the whole bill: big saunas ship by freight, a 240 V sauna needs an electrician, and returns usually cost a restocking fee.

Only models still on sale with a price on the seller's own page count; prices I saw only in search results are left out. 4 types don't have enough confirmed prices for a range. Most portable infrared tents are sold on marketplaces where the price wasn't verifiable; steam tent prices were checked on Amazon on Oct 7, 2026. Brand list prices for Dynamic, Maxxus and Golden Designs are included as listed, which pushes the infrared median up (see below).

Why sauna prices vary so much

Three things drive most of the spread: size, heat type and who's selling.

  • Size. The median one-seat infrared cabin costs 66% of the median three- or four-seater:
Indoor infrared cabins by size (models with a published price)
SeatsPrice rangeMedian
1$2,199 to $8,560$5,099
2$2,499 to $7,400$5,300
3–4$5,499 to $10,500$7,780
  • Heat type. Traditional indoor saunas start higher than infrared (median $7,047 against $5,999) and add a 240 V line.
  • List price vs store price. Golden Designs, which makes Dynamic and Maxxus, lists prices on its own site that dealers and Costco undercut. Costco has listed the Dynamic Barcelona at $1,699.99 against $3,499 from the brand. That's a pricing difference, not a quality one: it's the same cabin.

Some brands don't publish prices at all: 6 of Sunlighten's infrared cabins in our database are price on request.

Cheapest ways to get a sauna at home

Outdoor saunas for sale: what they cost

Barrels are the cheapest way into a backyard sauna: $4,037 to $7,885, median $6,127. Outdoor cabins and cubes run $4,699 to $43,990; the top of that range is a premium pre-assembled cabin. Outdoor infrared models cost $5,339 to $18,999, and mobile sauna trailers $27,999 to $32,299.

Most are sold by the brand or by dealers such as Topture and The Sauna Heater. Many outdoor saunas don't include the heater, so check: an electric heater adds $1,195 to $5,322, a wood stove $969 to $3,995. Compare models on outdoor saunas and barrel saunas.

Where to buy a sauna

Of the 123 confirmed sauna prices in our database,103 come from the brand's own store or a general retailer and 20 from sauna dealers (Topture, The Sauna Place, The Sauna Heater). In our database, every Dundalk, Finnmark and SaunaLife price comes from a dealer, and dealers don't always agree on the price of the same model. Big-box listings at Costco, Wayfair or Home Depot exist for some brands, but stock comes and goes. Whoever you buy from sets the return policy, so read theirs, not the brand's.

Infrared saunas for sale: what they cost

Indoor infrared cabins in our database cost $2,199 to $10,500, median $5,999. By size, see the table above. Costco has listed Dynamic cabins well below the brand's own prices:

All three were marked out of stock when I checked. The full infrared comparison is on our infrared saunas page.

What the price doesn't include

  • Delivery. Cabins and barrels ship by freight on a pallet to the curb; moving the pieces is on you unless you pay for white-glove service. Some sellers charge a flat fee: $950 for a SaunaLife kit and $1,990 for an Auroom cabin from The Sauna Heater. Many others ship free in the lower 48.
  • Returns. Restocking fees of 15–30% plus return freight are common on cabins; some brands won't take back an opened or assembled sauna. Details per model are in our comparisons.
  • Electrician. Small infrared cabins plug into a 120 V outlet; traditional saunas and large cabins need a 240 V line. Check with a licensed electrician; I don't have sourced figures for what that costs, so I won't guess.
  • Permit. Whether you need one depends on your city: check your local building department.
  • Running cost. Rated watts ÷ 1,000 × hours × your rate per kWh. A 6 kW stove at full power uses 6 kWh an hour; the worked examples are on 4-person saunas.

Paying over time

Many cabin brands offer financing at checkout. The terms worth knowing before you compare monthly payments:

  • Clearlight uses a Wells Fargo card: no interest if paid in full within 12 months with no money down, or within 18 months with $999 down; otherwise 9.90% APR. Miss the promotional window and interest is charged from the purchase date; the standard purchase APR on new accounts is 28.99%. Terms as of May 1, 2025 on Clearlight's financing page.
  • Sunlighten also finances through Wells Fargo, "subject to approved credit," but its page prints no rate or term; those come with the quote.
  • Finnmark Designs advertises 0% financing through Synchrony Financial on a page dated 2023; terms aren't printed.
  • Almost Heaven says it has "partnered with Affirm" on its financing page, and Wayfair lists its saunas with Affirm too; Affirm's rate depends on your credit and the term, from 0% up.

A 0% offer is only free if the balance is paid off inside the window, so work out the payment from the price with delivery, not the sticker. Rates and promotions change; check the brand's page the day you buy.

Is owning a sauna worth it?

That's arithmetic only you can do: price, plus delivery and wiring, against how often you'd use it and what the alternative costs where you live. If you're unsure, a blanket or dome is a cheap test. On the health side, what the studies show.
