Sunlighten Solo System review: a lie-down infrared dome, compared with cheaper domes and blankets
One sauna blanket, $2,099. The Solo System is two far-infrared domes over a heated mat, the SoloPad: you lie on your back with your head outside. There's no red light in it. Its strong point is the warranty, 7 years on the domes and the pad, where the blankets I compared get one. Sunlighten's store lists it at $2,099, on sale from $2,999. Its weak point is the return policy: once the box is open, you can't send it back.
It fits if you want to lie down rather than sit and you plan to keep it for years. Skip it if you'd rather sit upright (look at portable saunas) or want a lower price: the Clearlight Curve is the closest dome, at $1,599 with the same 7-year warranty.

What the Solo System is
Sunlighten sells it as a kit: two domes that cover you from the shoulders down, and the SoloPad underneath. The domes hold 5 SoloCarbon far-infrared heaters, the pad 4 more. Per the spec sheet, a dome measures 69 × 28 × 18 inches and weighs 46 lb; the pad is 74 × 23.6 × 4 inches and 13 lb. That's light enough to store in a closet, which is the reason most people look at a dome over a cabin.
The top setting, level 9 in Sunlighten's usage guide, is 150°F. That's the lowest top temperature in the comparison below: the Clearlight and Bon Charge domes and the HigherDOSE blanket list 153°F or more. The Solo heats you from above and below rather than through a hot air space, so the number tells you less than it would for a cabin, but it's the only one Sunlighten gives.
Power and setup
Both parts run on 120 V household current, each with its own plug: 1,260 W and 10.5 A for the domes, 300 W and 2.5 A for the pad. Together that's 1,560 W and 13 A. A standard household circuit is 15 A, so if both plugs go on one circuit with anything else running, you may trip the breaker. If you're not sure what else is on that circuit, ask a licensed electrician.
There's nothing to assemble beyond setting the domes on the pad and plugging in.
Warranty and returns
For home use, the warranty is 7 years; Sunlighten's warranty page adds 3 years on the controller and 1 year on the foam. The longer cover on the parts that heat is the main thing that separates the Solo from a $699 blanket.
Returns are strict (policy checked October 16, 2026). Sunlighten lists the Solo System with its cabins: 30 days from delivery, only in the original unopened packaging, and "any opened saunas are unable to be returned." Fees can include a 3% administrative fee, a $299 restocking fee and return shipping. A dome or a SoloPad bought on its own falls under the accessories policy instead, where opening it doesn't rule out a return but the restocking fees are $299 a dome and $99 a pad.
How much is the Sunlighten Solo?
On Oct 27, 2026, Sunlighten's store listed the Solo System at $2,099, on sale from $2,999, with free shipping. The same page sells the parts: the dome alone, with its curtain and pillow, at $1,999, and the SoloPad alone at $849. Bought separately they come to $2,848, so if you want both, the kit is the cheaper way. Sunlighten's main site still shows a "Get pricing" button on its Solo page; the price is in the store.
I don't repeat figures from other sites as if they were Sunlighten's. Prices for the cabins are on Sunlighten sauna prices. If you're offered a used one, remember that the warranty belongs to a purchase from Sunlighten or an authorized dealer.
Solo vs other domes and blankets
| Model | Form | Top temp the brand lists | Warranty | Returns | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sunlighten Solo System | Two domes over a heated pad | 150°F | 7 years | 30 days from delivery, only in the original unopened packaging | $2,099 |
| Clearlight The Curve Far Infrared Sauna Dome + Amethyst Infrared PEMF Mat | Dome + PEMF mat | 153°F | 7 years | 30 business days | $1,599 |
| HigherDOSE Infrared Sauna Blanket | Blanket | 175°F | 1 year | 120 days money-back (legal policy: 14 days, unopened blankets only) | $699 |
| Sun Home Infrared Sauna Blanket | Blanket | Not published | 1 year | 30 days from delivery, in the original packaging and like-new | $499 |
| Bon Charge Infrared PEMF Sauna Dome | Two domes + PEMF mat, LEDs | 194°F | 1 year | 30 days from receipt | $3,349 |
The Clearlight Curve is the nearest thing: a far-infrared dome with a mat, the same 7-year warranty, a price of $1,599, $500 less than the Solo, and it takes returns of an as-new unit within 30 business days, with you paying the shipping. Its price is from Clearlight's "Black Friday Pricing" sale, for orders placed by November 30, 2026.
The blankets cost far less but carry one-year warranties, and you're wrapped in the heat source rather than lying under it. The Bon Charge dome costs more than the Solo, adds red and near-infrared LEDs and lists the highest top temperature here, 194°F, also with a one-year warranty. More on sauna blankets and portable saunas.
The Solo and the FDA
Sunlighten doesn't present the Solo as a medical device: it describes its products as "General Wellness products, not medical devices, as defined by the Food and Drug Administration", and I found no listing for the Solo in the FDA's databases. Questions about what infrared heat does for you belong with the evidence: what studies of infrared saunas show.
Sessions: what Sunlighten recommends
Sunlighten's guide suggests starting with 15–20 minute sessions and working up to 40. That's the brand's recommendation for this device, not a general rule; how long to stay in any sauna is covered in how long to stay in a sauna.
Questions people ask
How much is the Sunlighten Solo?
$2,099 on Sunlighten's store, on sale from $2,999, checked Oct 27, 2026. The dome alone is $1,999.
Are Sunlighten saunas worth it?
For the Solo, you pay for the 7-year warranty and lose the ability to return it once opened. The cabins are covered in the Sunlighten review.
What toxins do infrared saunas remove?
Toxic elements do turn up in sweat, according to a 2012 systematic review of 24 studies. That review didn't show that sweating in a sauna lowers what's in your body in a way that matters for health, and Sunlighten's own claims about it aren't evidence. See our medical disclaimer.
What should you do right after an infrared sauna?
Drink water. The weight you lose in a session is water: in a small study of 12 people, three 20-minute sessions cost 1.4–1.8% of body weight, and an hour of drinking afterward didn't bring it back (Gutiérrez, 2003).
